Just two weeks since our last update, and progress at the HSBC Bank Place Revitalization has made major gains. In particular, the podium-level cladding has now begun in earnest, with several large glass panes now in place.

For though many on our Forum have expressed concerns over the significant loss of retail at grade that the current revamp represents, which is especially troubling given the tower's prominent downtown location, the podium's new, airy aesthetic will likely serve the project (and perhaps even the area) well. Set to span over two floors, the lobby and main entrance will be airy and bright, with ample natural light for workers and support staff to enjoy.

More than just a face-lift, the DIALOG-designed revitalization will transform the 19-storey office tower from Class A to a AA, and will more than likely achieve LEED Gold certification. The interior spaces will be completely redone, the offices to represent the latest in modern efficiency and design standards.

With the upper level re-clad now essentially complete, focus has been directed to the base, it to not be long now before the exterior of the project is a wrap. Once complete, retail or not, the HSBC Bank Place Revitalization will be a net positive for the area - a sign that investors are once again ready to bet on the core.

SkyriseEdmonton will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
