On November 4, City Council will debate the merits of Westrich Pacific and Arc Studio's proposal to erect a 43-storey, 130-metre, residential high-rise upon the NE corner of 111 St NW and 100 Ave NW in Oliver. Known as "The Heights," the mixed-use development would feature up to 370 residential units perched atop a single row of multi-storey townhouses, with space leftover for street-level retail.

Though by far not the only high-rise in the area, The Heights would surely be one of the tallest. The proposed tower would soar over and above the existing crop of mid-century apartment blocks and older single-family homes that have long defined the neighbourhood.

Case in point, the image below captures a view of the current occupant of the proposed build site - a modest, mid-century walk-up apartment block - which will soon be replaced should plans for the tower be approved. No doubt, it is the hope of the developer that the inclusion of a single row of townhouses, mixed with some retail, will go a long way towards assuaging any potential concerns over height.

Should City Council approve the rezoning application, demolition and site clearance could begin immediately. If approved, The Heights could be on track to bring upwards of 500 new residents to the area.

SkyriseEdmonton will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
