Two months since our last update, and progress at the Centre West Conversion and Expansion project in the Government District has been moving steadily along. While the exterior makeover continues at the 12-storey, former government office block, construction has also been moving along at the new 6-storey addition.

Set to become home to more than 250 residents, to be spread across 214 units between the two structures, the project will have a transformative effect upon the Government District. Joining Symphony Tower, Augustana, and a handful of other area projects, the Centre West Conversion and Expansion will bring a great deal of urban vibrancy to a part of the city which has long been defined by the daily rhythms of the 9-4:30 crowd.

Moving in for a closer look, and it appears that the first coat of the former office tower's (below) fresh, new face, is now being applied. Slated to take on a stark white aesthetic, the tower and associated mid-rise block will surely stand out against the blue Edmonton sky.

For though it is not clear as of yet if the white paint (above) is representative of the finished product, or is simply an undercoating, it is known from the renderings that a bright white finish is the end goal. With quite a bit more work yet to go, it will be some time before we get a true sense of how this project will turn out.

Until next time, then, SkyriseEdmonton will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
