Just three weeks since our last update, and progress at the @81 conversion and expansion project has moved ahead significantly. The former single-storey commercial structure has now been completely engulfed by new construction, having grown a full storey in a relatively short amount of time.

Rising fast owing to its timber frame construction, the conversion and expansion work has been swift. Spearheaded by Beljan Developments and Bennett Architect, @81 will eventually stand a full four storeys above grade.

To be composed of three storeys of residential space perched atop a single storey of street-facing retail, @81 will bring a sizable amount of gentle density and height to Strathcona. Close to both the bustling 82 Ave NW and Gateway Blvd corridors, the project will bring further pedestrian vibrancy to the vicinity.

A total of 6 large retail bays will front the base of the structure, five of which will face directly onto 81 Ave NW. Furthermore, the retail space will be augmented by a large patio, which will double as additional outdoor space.

SkyriseEdmonton will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
