Only a few weeks since our last update, and progress upon the heritage component of The MacLaren has been speeding along. The recreated facsimile facade of the former Buena Vista Apartments/Glenora Bed & Breakfast Inn has almost reached completion, with final touches and accent pieces now in place.
The century-old facade has been faithfully restored, right down to the stone lintels, sculpted signage, brick accents, and "ghost signs," all of which can now been seen across the entirety of the heritage base. Other touches, such as the wrought iron Juliet balconies, have added a high degree of authenticity to the recreated facsimile facade.
Forming the base for a 27-storey, 240-unit, residential high-rise, the DIALOG-designed, Edgar Development-built podium and tower project will bring a great deal of pedestrian vibrancy to the corner of 124 St NW and 102 Ave NW. More than this, the "return" of the heritage structure to the neighbourhood will stand as an important symbol of what is possible when developers work with, rather than against, existing local heritage.
Once complete, The MacLaren will be a great addition to Glenora, the project a major boon to the area, and to the city at large.
SkyriseEdmonton will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
