Two months since we last checked in at Southpark on Whyte, and construction has now gotten well underway. What was then little more than patch of dirt has blossomed into the full build site, complete with rebar pilings, heavy machinery, and loads of construction materials sitting at the ready.

Located, as the name suggests, along four lots spread along 106 St NW between Whyte Ave between 81 Ave NW, the massive project will have quite an impact upon the former Southpark Motors lands that once dominated the area. Caught thus betweem Garneau and Stratcona, Southpark on Whyte will place its mix of residents, shops, and restaurants within easy walking distance of two prime downtown neighbourhoods.

The full buildout will comprise of six mixed-use structures, including four residential towers and two mid-rise residential blocks, all of which will feature ample retail, dining, and drinking options at their bases. With frontage directly onto Whyte Ave, the project will have a transformative presence, bringing new energy and life into the neigbourhood.

Once complete, Southpark on Whyte will be a fine addition, its healthy mix of gentle density, height, and retail, a model which should be emulated across the city.

SkyriseEdmonton will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
