Nearly four months since our last update, and progress at the Southpark on Whyte build site has moved along significantly. With the ground now thawed, and the snow long gone, excavation and shoring work has resumed at full speed, the bulk of the site now traced by a large retaining wall.

Pilings and support beams have also begun to take root, it to be not long now until the first rounds of floor pours start to take effect. Set to be built in stages, the four-part development will be located across four lots along 106 St NW between Whyte Ave and 81 Ave NW.

A suitable replacement for the former Southpark Motors that closed up shop more than a decade ago, the aptly-named Southpark on Whyte by ONE Properties and Stantec will bring hundreds of new residents to the area. Close to the 82 Ave NW, Calgary Trail NW, and Gateway Boulevard commercial corridors, Southpark on Whyte will place residents within easy walking distance to numerous shops, restaurants, and cafes.

Considered as a whole, the four-structure "mega" development will likely serve the area well. The influx of new families and urban professionals into the neighbourhood, to say nothing of the many retail bays that will populate ground floors, to go a long way towards assuaging any previous concerns over height, density, or project design.

SkyriseEdmonton will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
