Hot on the heels of our last update, and the City of Edmonton has released a cool new interactive 3D model of the recently debuted 9955 Jasper Ave high-rise proposal. Available here, the model includes a high-resolution rendering of the tower as it would appear in the real world.

Set to stand tall at the corner of Jasper Ave and 100 St NW, adjacent to the Fairmont MacDonald Hotel at the heart of downtown, the 185-metre, 61-storey, 9955 Jasper Ave could very well become an Edmonton landmark. Notable for its skinny profile, and a standout structure owing to its glass facade amid a sea of stone and concrete, 9955 Jasper Ave has the potential to breathe some new life into one of Edmonton's most recognizable corners.

Using the titular interactive 3D model, users can manipulate panoramic views of the tower from one of several vantage points, thereby allowing one to fully appreciate the proposed tower's height, scale, and impact on local sightlines. In terms of the latter, as mentioned in our last article, a plaza will be incorporated into the design, which will help create a clearly defined gulf between 9955 Jasper Ave and the Fairmont, while simultaneously tying the two structures together at street level for enhanced pedestrian connectivity.

Viewed from the rear, and set between a collection of mid-century concrete towers, the boxy, almost subdued aesthetic of 9955 Jasper Ave can be best appreciated as part of the skyline. Lastly, following the recent EDC meeting, it would appear that whatever shape the project takes, a skinny tower is in the works for downtown Edmonton, one which will forever change the way in which the city approaches high-rise construction.

SkyriseEdmonton will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
