Six weeks since our last update, and progress at the Centre West Conversion and Expansion has been making steady advances. What was then only a partial build site has blossomed into a hive of activity as workers and heavy machinery navigate the numerous pilings and cement forms that have now come to dominate the site.

The KENNEDY-designed conversion and expansion project by Strategic Group, located at the heart of the Government District, will see the office-to-residential conversion of a former 1970s-era office block, in addition to the construction of an entirely new 6-storey residential mid-rise condo. In terms of the latter, progress to date has been swift, the new structure soon to emerge into daylight.

In total, the conversion and expansion project will see the addition of 214 residential units, with 154 in the former office block, and 60 in the new build. As viewed below, the pilot holes for the existing tower's new balconies have now all been drilled, it to not be long now before the structure's full transformation begins to take shape.

Once complete, the redeveloped block(s) will be home to upwards of 300 new residents - thereby representing a potentially transformative influx of new life into the traditionally quiet Government District. No longer strictly a haven for the 9-4:30 crowd, the area's rebirth will likely result in a positive net change for a neighbourhood which has long been overlooked.

SkyriseEdmonton will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
