Just over a month since our last update, and progress at the site of the Centre West Conversion and Expansion project has been moving steadily along. A fresh crop of pilings and supports has begun to sprout up at the base of the excavation pit, as work crews return to full force in anticipation of spring.

Designed by KENNEDY and Strategic Group, the multi-million dollar retrofit and expansion will see the complete overhaul of an existing 1970s-era 12-storey government office block into residential, alongside the creation of a brand new 6-storey mid-rise condo. Combined, the two structures will represent a total of 214 residential units, with 154 in the former and 60 in the latter.

Viewed below, the completed project will see the arrival of upwards of 300 new residents into the Government District. Traditionally known as a haven for the 9-4:30 crowd, the neighbourhood just west of the core will soon be given a second lease on life as a mix of young professionals and families come to call the area home.

The two structures will be connected via common podium, which by the looks of it, may include retail at grade. Well-situated close to the Jasper Ave corridor, downtown, and transit, the Centre West project will more than likely be a popular one among those looking for a healthy mix of convenience and urban living.

SkyriseEdmonton will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
