A row of century homes in Garneau has come down to make way for William Off Whyte, a low-rise condo block that will bring a modest 44 units to the area. Built by Greenview Developments, the project has just now begun to rise, following completion of site clearance and excavation work as performed over the summer.

Taking their place, William Off Whyte will soon be home to upwards of 70 new residents, the site's location at the apex of the 109 St NW and 82 Ave NW commercial corridors, thereby ensuring that this will be a popular project to buy into. Close to Garneau Park, and two separate rows of pubs, restaurants, and shops, the new condo block will offer the best of city living while still (for now) giving some of the semblance of a residential neighbourhood.

While construction still has a long way to go, the image above conveys the scope of the project as illustrated by its concrete foundations. Below, a rendering of the project as it will appear upon completion highlights the somewhat unconventional roofline, as well as the reason behind the pun-inspired name.

William Off Whyte will be, ahem, off-white, its concrete exterior to be painted or perhaps covered over in some kind of cladding, its tilted roofline to give the structure a bit of added pizazz.

SkyriseEdmonton will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
