Less than a month since our last update, and progress at The MacLaren has been speeding along, the 27-storey tower now standing at about 25 floors above grade. Cladding and glazing work has been progressing as well, the tower and podium level beginning to shape up nicely ahead of the planned heritage retrofit at the base of the structure.

The DIALOG-designed tower by Edgar Development has now begun to fill out, its multi-storey podium base now largely clad save for the temporary blank concrete canvas that now sits atop the former site of the Glenora Bed & Breakfast Inn (formerly the Buena Vista Apartments). The former heritage facade will be "restored" in the guise of a faithful facsimile.

The MacLaren sits at the corner of 124 St NW and 102 Ave NW, the 240-unit residential tower to sit astride a continuous row of ground-floor retail and a cafe spread along 124th Street. The inclusion of retail is critical to the success of this project, its development having replaced several shops alongside the aforementioned heritage structure.

Moving around to the side of the project, the 102 Ave NW frontage reveals the progress to date on the residential portion of the tower and podium (centre), while also revealing the scope of the "heritage" element which sits under heavy scaffolding on the corner (right). Once complete, The MacLaren will bring upwards of 350 new residents to the busy 124th Street corridor between Glenora, Oliver, and Westmount, at the city's ever-changing west end.

SkyriseEdmonton will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
