A month since our last update, and progress at the site of the HSBC Bank Place Revitalization has been moving along steadily. Demolition crews have been hard at work, carefully peeling off the exterior of the tower, which will eventually be re-clad and re-purposed as a state of the art commercial property.

The DIALOG-designed revitalization will see the 19-storey, 317,000 square-foot office tower upgraded from Class A to AA, the completed project to seek LEED Gold Certification. The tower will be re-clad in modern floor-ceiling glass, the office spaces within revamped to reflect 21st-century requirements.

From the outside, the most dramatic portion of the retrofit will take place at street level. The corner facing onto 101 St NW and 103 Ave NW to be remade with a double-height glass curtain wall, thereby creating an airy, open-concept main entrance and lobby.

While it is yet to be seen whether the new lobby will include any space for retail, the addition would be a welcome one. The tower's central location calls for something spectacular, especially given the fact that the precedent-setting ICE District now sits just a few blocks away.

SkyriseEdmonton will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
