Edmontonians are being given another chance to shape their city, this time helping to guide the future direction of Confederation Park at 11204 43 Avenue NW in Royal Gardens. The green space has been identified as a priority under the District Activity Renewal Program, which provides a long-term strategy to upgrade park infrastructure and amenities in so-called District Activity Parks. It also determines park projects for the ten-year Capital Investment Agenda and Capital Budget 2019-2022.

Confederation Park is currently home to two high schools, a community leisure centre, sports fields, a running track, basketball and tennis courts. The space is catalogued as a 'District Park,' referring to active sites that serve a population primarily within a 2.5-kilometre catchment area. The City says District Parks are commonly home to recreational fields and sports centres, providing different yet complementary opportunities to neighbourhood parks.

Public engagement began in fall 2016 with open houses and surveys being held. Concepts were developed over 2017, with the final concept to be commented upon at the latest open house. Collected feedback will then morph the Confederation District Park Master Plan, which is expected to be completed this summer.

The open house will be held next Wednesday April 11 from 4 to 7 PM at Confederation Leisure Centre (11204 43 Avenue). Anyone unable to attend can complete an online survey which will stay open until April 25th.
