Monday's public hearing for the redevelopment of the Wild Earth Bakery site in Strathcona went past the allotted time, forcing the project to return to council on April 9th. ONE Properties and Bateman Properties have pitched 18- and 15-storey residential towers for the property at 99 Street NW and 89 Avenue NW, a proposal that has been shaped by public feedback since November 2016.

DIALOG's scheme for the site was significantly revised in the face of community comments targeted at the height of the original concept, a single tower which could have reached 31 storeys. The two-tower proposal that was presented upon return generally maintained the floor area density of the initial project, but diminished its visual impact. The revised version includes 242 residences and between 750 and 2,000 square metres of commercial space. All vehicular parking would be provided underground.

Despite the sweeping changes to the project's form, members of the community remain solidly opposed to the height and the towers' potential to cause traffic and parking headaches. Extending the public hearing into next month gives the community additional time to submit their feedback about the proposal.
