Cidex seems to be gaining favor towards Edmonton with a nearly-built project in the Quarters, a land purchase across the street that must surely mean they are doubling down on the Quarters adventure, a very interesting 3-tower project in Ole Strath and now this one at 124th street. I like their thinking -- build on the periphery of the main action. They are moving up in my personal esteem-o-meter, similar to LEDR, Dub, and Beljan. I like those who think differently. On the 124 project (26 storeys), a nice cluster is developing with Cidex' project in close proximity to the MacLaren (2 doors away -- 27 storeys), Glenora Park (1 block away -- 23 storeys), the CNIB tower (3 1/2 blocks away -- 37 storeys), and J123 (a stones throw away (please don't) -- 30 storeys). These projects will keep the transformation of 124 as a distinct shopping/gallery/hospitality grouping moving along and they are certainly heralding that end of the main drag (triple entendre) -- Jasper Avenue -- into a substantial mixed-use street.

This is awesome! The west side of Jasper is truly becoming an "Uptown" to Downtown.

Indeed, I've always thought of 124 St as the start of "uptown", 123-110 St to be "midtown" and 109-97 St (CBD) to be "downtown" (that's how I explained it to my Nashville friends when they were visiting this past summer, haha. I figured a Manhattan analogy would make the most sense).

Nice to see the end of Jasper gaining some momentum. The proposed developments around this corner are starting to remind me of a few turns in Yaletown that my taxi driver took when I was in Vancouver a few months back.

I hope all the proposals in this area get built; it'll bring life back to 124 St, with a 104 St kind of feel.
