The old car dealership and all that concrete/empty parking on south side at 115-116st is also sad. Abandoned and sad
With the O'daymin park and area void being filled, I think this stretch of Jasper between 117 Street and 111 Street is now the most underutilized area in the city. So many Surface parking lots and strip malls with the densest neighbourhood in the city stradling either side. Unfortunately, I don't think the public realm upgrades to Jasper do much to move the needle for development.

I should point out that one of the car dealership buildings is now home to Revolution Cycle, which moved from the west end a couple of years ago. Otherwise, the rest of the car dealership land between 114 and 116 St is in dire need of redevelopment.

Now how about that big parking lot in front of the Edmonton General Hospital? Or that parking lot on the NE corner of Jasper Ave/116 St?

In the district plan, the Edmonton General is marked for park/open space if it ever gets redeveloped. Maybe the city could do a partial expropriation of that parking lot to expedite things.

It hasn't been a full scale hospital for decades and there is a parkade on the south side, that parking lot in front of the Edmonton General should be turned into a nice park.

If you live in a county and keep your land unsightly to the point it's impacting your neighbors and community, there are normally bylaws in place to put pressure on the owner to clean up the land or risk it being seized, cleaned, and sent to auction.

Maybe having a municipal bylaw that follows those rural standards should be put in place for these problem developers. The least they can to is keep it green and upkept and show a little bit of pride in their community.
