Beaverbrook's infill development arm, InHouse, is gearing up to launch floor plans for their CX Lofts and Townhomes project in Oliver. The Roman numeral-inspired name leverages the project's location along 110 Street NW and embraces a contemporary cubist form courtesy of RAW Design and Marshall Tittemore Architects.

The six-storey mid-rise project is set to employ structural glued laminated timber, a specially engineered wood that offers architectural, insulating and soundproofing advantages over traditional concrete masses. The renewable material is environmentally friendly and also serves an integral purpose in expressing a warm interior design, with exposed wood ceilings providing an industrial-style aesthetic across all units.

The exterior would be clad in alternating charcoal and silver metal panels, while a walnut finish frames the building's balconies and helps break down the scale of the structure. CX faced scrutiny from the design panel back in July, with comments suggesting "additional design refinement to ensure the privacy of units abutting the west property line," and "more variation in material, colour and/or architectural detail on the west facade abutting the lane in order to break up the large expanse of the wall."

The CX design team is in the final stages of preparing the floor plans for release on October 1. Starting from 480-square-foot studios and topping out at 1,550-square-foot townhomes with rooftop terraces, the building's 68 units are expected to attract a diverse range of clientele.

You may have spotted a mobile presentation centre driving about the streets of Edmonton with CX's resident expert Walter on board. The Twitter account @WheresWalterYEG chronicles the adventures of Walter as he makes his way around town, with the first person to spot him each day — and post a photo to social media with #whereswalteryeg — winning a gift card to a local business. The unique marketing tactic is certainly piquing the interest of those who happen to come across the wheeled sales centre, drumming up excitement for the project by inviting curious onlookers inside for a glance at the development's features, finishes and neighbourhood amenities.
