JW Marriott and The Legends Private Residences is in a bit of a cladding race with the Stantec Tower it seems, as both ICE District skyscrapers have received their first panels of glazing in the first months of 2017. The curved concrete floor plates of the 54-storey tower are being wrapped in a distorted mirror-like facade that will provide some contrast with the prominent fins of the Stantec Tower.
Marriott International and ICE District Properties Joint Venture announced in early 2016 that the JW Marriott would become the new neighbourhood's first luxury hotel. The iconic lifestyle brand was chosen as the replacement for the former Delta Hotel when Marriott acquired the Delta Hotels and Resorts chain in 2015.
The Hariri Pontarini Architects-designed development will contain 356 rooms and suites and over 25,000 square feet of contemporary meeting and conference spaces, including one of the city's largest ballrooms, sizing in at more than 10,000 square feet. Renderings show the balcony-less bottom portion of the tower where the hotel will be situated, with the JW Marriott logo slapped atop the oblique elevation. From the 23rd floor to the top of the building, 264 condominiums will offer residents floor-to-ceiling glass views of the community when the tower opens in late 2018.
