Nearly four months since our last update, and progress at Brighton Block has moved forward significantly. In particular, the 3-storey rooftop addition has now been almost completely glassed in, the project as a whole now appearing close to (outward) structural completion.

Designed by Hodgson Schiff Evans Architects for Primavera Development, the Brighton Block redevelopment and expansion project has resulted in a dramatic transformation for the century-old chemist's shop on Jasper Ave. Known formally as the Ernest Brown Block (c. 1912) - emblazoned as it has been for decades with its "Everything Photographic" marquee - the Brighton Block's imminent rebirth will bring new life to the local streetscape.

Moving around to the rear, the scope of the upper level addition can truly be appreciated, the new structure to house a mix of office and dining space in the form of a rooftop cafe (latter). All-in the refurbished Brighton Block will be comprised of a single floor of street-facing retail, above which the aforementioned office space will rise, terminating with a brand new rooftop cafe/restaurant.

Set to become a coveted hot spot for the downtown office crowd, and more than likely to spur future developments along the central Jasper Ave corridor, Brighton Block represents the bold vision required to breathe new life into Edmonton's long-neglected main street.

SkyriseEdmonton will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
