One month since we last checked in on Encore Tower, and cladding work has continued slowly but surely at the the 43-storey, 138-metre high-rise in downtown Edmonton. The top has been capped off, and glass cladding has continued its ascent - albeit ploddingly - as work crews down below begin the task of dismantling the scaffolding.
With much of the podium-level scaffolding now removed, passersby can get a much better take upon the overall size and scope of the tower. Rising high at the corner of 103 St NW and 102 Ave NW, adjacent to the City Centre Mall and downtown YMCA, Encore Tower's future residents will be right in the heart of the city.
Down at street level, the tower's immediate base will clad in a mixture of traditional materials, including brick, glass, and stone. Allowing thus for the tower to sit somewhat back from the street, the two-storey retail podium will provide a more human-scale pedestrian experience to the local streetscape.
Moving around to the north side of the project, it is clear that the predominantly brick-clad podium base will be a formidable presence within the core. Designed by Dub Architects for Westrich Pacific, the decision to use faux-distressed brick - despite a handful of criticisms on our Forum - will likely serve the structure fairly well, Encore Tower to breathe new life into Edmonton's traditional downtown core.
SkyriseEdmonton will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
