Nearly a year since our last update, and the vaguely Edwardian commercial pile known as The Grand has now all but reached completion. Cobbled together into what may best be described as a Post Modern (PoMo) pastiche of historic architectural themes, the three-storey structure stands prominently at the corner of 124 St NW and 108 Ave NW in the heart of Westmount.

Located in the midst of the bustling 124 St NW commercial corridor, The Grand will consist of two floors of office space, including medical offices, which will sit above a street-level retail space. The planned storefronts will range from 1,264-1,407 sq. ft., while the offices above will range from 741-1,135 sq. ft.

Borrowing from a mix of traditional and modern architectural themes, including Beaux Arts, Edwardian, and Industrial, arranged together with a range of materials including brick, metal, glass, and cement, The Grand represents an animated array of architectural trends.

Today nearing completion, with just the ground floor left to finish, The Grand will soon have its debut, the project to bring a welcome amount of density and urban vibrancy to the area. Close to the future Valley Line West LRT, and on the path of many passing pedestrians, The Grand will be a fine addition to Westmount.

SkyriseEdmonton will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
