Two months since our last update, and the progress underway at the HSBC Bank Place Revitalization has been swift. Several more floors' worth of cladding have been added to the tower, the new highly reflective glazing now reaching roughly halfway up the structure.
The retro reflective glass by DIALOG has truly begun to come into its own, the 19-storey office tower slowly but surely beginning to appear more and more contemporary with each successive floor of cladding. Built using modern, high-quality, high-efficiency materials, the upgraded tower will move from Class A to AA, and will likely achieve LEED Gold certification.
The HSBC Bank Place Revitalization project encompasses 317,000 sq. ft. of commercial space, located at the heart of the city's downtown core. In keeping with its state of the art retrofit, the tower will additionally hold WELL Gold certification, thereby making it the first of its kind in Western Canada to be Wired Certified.
Moving down to street level, the commercial podium base will feature a large entryway and bank branch location, with no current plans to include any additional street-facing retail. Once complete, the HSBC Bank Place Revitalization will fill one need, while falling short on another, providing top-tier office space on the one hand, but missing the opportunity for more pedestrian vibrancy and a meaningful connection to the downtown street grid on the other.
SkyriseEdmonton will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
