The Government District has been transformed as a massive excavation site now takes the place of the future Centre West Conversion and Expansion project now underway in downtown Edmonton. Partners Strategic Group and KENNEDY have entered into a multi-million dollar retrofit which is on target to breathe new life into the area long relegated to the daily rhythms of public sector employees who daily call the neighbourhood home.

Located along Capital Boulevard south of Jasper, the 1970s-era, 12-storey former government office block will receive a comprehensive overhaul - its planned residential conversion and expansion to see the inclusion of 154 units. As for the expansion, an additional 60-unit, 6-storey mid-rise block will join the site, thereby raising the total unit count to 214.

Viewed above in images from December 2018, and again from January 2019, progress has been swift. The excavation has plowed down at least three storeys, it to be not long now before construction crews can take command of the site.

The completed development will be comprised of two towers - the 12-storey retrofit and the 6-storey new build - which together will fill out the site nicely. Each tower will be connected to the other via a common 1st floor podium, which may include retail.

SkyriseEdmonton will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
