Three weeks since our last update, and progress at the site of the Hat at Five Corners development at Jasper Ave and 95 St NW has been moving along nicely, the partially complete tower and podium already beginning to redefine its surroundings. Developed upon an irregular lot by Cidex Group, and designed by NORR Architects, the mixed-use residential project will soon reinvigorated the The Corners with a double-height floor of ground level retail and upwards of 300 new residents calling the area home.

Visible above and below, the unusual intersection is now in the midst of a major transformation, the build site very different now than it was a decade ago. Viewed from 95 St NW back in 2009 (below), the site was long a parking lot, surrounded by a rag tag bunch of low-rise commercial buildings and mid-rise apartment blocks.

Throughout all of this change, the only constant has been the enduring presence of the historic Alex Taylor School, which can be made out in each of the three images featured above and below. The Hat at Five Corners' completion will hopefully spark future developments, The Corners still very much in need of a thorough makeover.

Nestled between Boyle Street and Riverdale, and close to Churchill Station and the core, Hat at Five Corners will likely be a popular address, the perfect spot for early gentrifiers to take root and become part of the neighbourhood's rebirth.

SkyriseEdmonton will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
