Two months since our last update, and progress at the site of Edgar Developments' The MacLaren has been speeding along, the 27-storey apartment block now standing at least 15 storeys above grade. Soon to be home to 240 rental units, the project is on pace to deliver upwards of 300 new residents to Oliver by 2019.

Designed by DIALOG, the glazing work now underway along the bottom floors of the project will eventually be softened by the brick-clad facsimile of the former Glenora Bed & Breakfast Inn, which was demolished to make way for the present development.

Part of the changing face of the neighbourhood, The MacLaren's transformation has been met by the recent reconfiguration and resurfacing of 102 Ave NW, which now includes a fully separated bike lane.

As the tower continues its ascent, heritage enthusiasts and locals alike will be keen to catch a glimpse of the recreated Buena Vista Apartments, which will likely make an appearance soon. For while it is always disappointing to see historic buildings disappear, the nod to Oliver's past will hopefully represent a positive shift for similar developments in the future.

SkyriseEdmonton will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
