In the two months since our last update, progress at the site of the future home of MacEwan University's new Students' Association Building has been moving along nicely, the excavation having sprouted a fresh crop of cement and rebar. Recent construction images from our Forum highlight the level of progress made to date, the ghostly outline of the old cement steps (below left) that once existed on-site a reminder of the transformation now well underway.

Visible in the above shot of the excavation, the large vertical form that has been erected near the centre of the site will eventually support a large living wall. Next to the living wall, a sizeable cement pad has taken shape, it to only be a matter of months before the MacEwan Students' Association Building reaches above grade.

Running through the length of the build site, a large foundation wall can be clearly made out, providing onlookers with a sense of the future scope of the structure.

Once complete, the Students' Association of MacEwan University's new home will provide a thoroughly modern space, outfitted with a mix of small-and-large study and conference rooms, including five banquette-style booths, two designated quiet study areas, and multiple seating spaces with outlets.

Slated for 2019, the new facility will feature a significant amount of glass, thus providing ample natural light which will pour into the interior of the building via a series of clerestory openings (above). The new structure will meet LEED Silver standards for this and the planned living wall, as mentioned above.

SkyriseCalgary will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
