In preparation for the next phase of the $48 million Groat Road Bridge rehabilitation project, the City of Edmonton has implemented a series of local traffic changes. Viewed in the map below, limited vehicular and pedestrian traffic through the area is still possible, albeit with various lane restrictions and reroutings in place until October, 2020.

Traffic along Groat Road Bridge has been shifted to the west side of the bridge, with narrow lanes of just 3.2 metres. The Victoria Park Overpass has also been narrowed to a single lane in each direction, which will allow for construction work to continue. For pedestrians and cyclists, traffic will be moved temporarily to the closed northbound lanes prior to the completion of a detour route that will eventually come into effect.

Originally built in 1955, with its last major rehabilitation dating to 1989-90, the Groat Road Bridge has long been due for an overhaul. Once completed, the latest renewal project will see a list of improvements, including wider sidewalks and a new road surface.
