After the effort to rebuild the Roxy Theatre received a funding boost from Ottawa and the City of Edmonton earlier this year, the province has decided to follow suit, announcing a $2.5 million contribution of its own towards the facility's reconstruction. The 1938-built theatre was destroyed in a devastating fire in 2015, leaving the Theatre Network without a home, later moving into a temporary space on Gateway Boulevard.

The new building, designed by Group2, will fill the gaping hole that the blaze left along 124 Street. It will feature three distinct performance spaces and integrated backstage and front-of-house areas.

According to renderings released alongside the announcement, the new Roxy Theatre will also advertise its presence with a re-created marquee.

The federal and municipal governments committed over $500,000 in funding towards the project in February. The theatre could be up and running at its old location by 2020.
