Construction at the former home of the Buena Vista Apartments has now flown past grade, returning some sense of normalcy to the Oliver property. The building now arising on the site is coming courtesy of Edgar Development, whose 27-storey The MacLaren promises to return a facsimile of the building that anchored the corner for over a century.
The DIALOG-designed luxury apartment tower will contain a total of 240 units and commercial space on the ground floor. An "innovative reimagining" of the Buena Vista Building's north, south and west facades partially comprise the base of the modern tower. The 104-year-old structure was taken down in 2016 and housed the Glenora Bed and Breakfast.
In addition to large expanses of glass and protruding balconies, the building's architectural expression is partially informed by brick cladding running up from the development's forecourt, which is pictured in a rendering hosting a surfeit of seating and a canopy of lights.
Edgar Development has set up a live construction camera capturing the vertical progress of the site as it makes its way into the Edmonton skyline.
