The Blue Chicago restaurant has been reduced to a pile of rubble as developer Alldritt Land Corporation ponders plans for a two-tower development. Ward 1 Councillor Andrew Knack posted photos of the site post-demolition on his Twitter page Saturday, foretelling a major intensification project that would also envelope several homes to the south of the property at Stony Plain Road and 142nd Street NW.

In an exchange with the Edmonton Journal on Monday, legal counsel and director of development for Alldritt, David Benjestorf, said immediate plans would see the site turned into a temporary green space, with perimeter fencing to prevent the property from being used as a parking lot or garbage dump.

In early 2016, KENNEDY, on behalf of the developer, circulated neighbouring residents an information sheet describing "two slim residential towers, up to three floors of retail and office space to frame the street, outdoor spaces for cafes and dining, and an elegant urban plaza that will serve the surrounding community throughout the year."

The project would rise kitty-corner to Beaverbrook's West Block, which recently celebrated the topping off of its inaugural tower.
