Edmonton's three oldest bus transit buildings are being removed and replaced as part of a modernization effort to improve customer safety, accessibility and integration with the community. The Belvedere, Jasper Place and Castle Downs transit centres will each be given a distinct makeover that includes additional security cameras, redesigned sidewalks, enhanced outdoor lighting, public art, and more seating within sheltered and heated areas.

Bus service is continuing at each location while the buildings are shuttered. Construction work is already underway at Belvedere and Jasper Place, with Castle Downs expected to begin its facelift in March. All construction is scheduled to finish before the end of the year, allowing the new transit centres to enter service.

The projects are being carried out through allocated investments under The Public Transit Infrastructure Fund, which has been financially supplied by the three levels of government. The City is moving forward with 46 PTIF projects with an approved budget of nearly $300 million — $37.75 million is going toward transit centre improvements.
