In the four weeks since our last update, progress has been moving along nicely at the site of the Fox Towers development. The KENNEDY-designed Langham Developments Limited-built two-tower complex is currently on target to bring a mix of office, residential, and retail space to the heart of downtown Edmonton. At 33 and 28 storeys tall, the complex sits atop a shared multi-storey podium that opens onto the streets below. The setback towers have been designed to not overwhelm the surrounding streetscape along 104 Street NW, much of which dates back to the early 20th century.

While the podium level retail space below Fox One has been completed for some time, it appears that it will not be long before tenants begin to move into the equivalent space below the soon-to-be-completed Fox Two. Though no occupants have been confirmed, a potential large bar and entertainment venue was proposed and withdrawn.

To be clad in brick, the more traditional materiality of the podium level has once again been designed as a nod to the aesthetic of the surrounding streetscape, as many of the buildings on 104th St NW are among the oldest in the city. Once complete, the complex will bring a total of 340 residential units online, and the development will add to the urban vibrancy of one of Edmonton's busiest, most pedestrian corridors thanks in large part to the addition of its large, human-scale podium and street-facing retail space.
