Fort Saskatchewan is planning to start its expansion of Veterans Way in 2022. Veterans Way consists of the stretches of Highways 15 and 21 which are in its borders, except for the portion of Highway 15 which branches off towards the North Saskatchewan River. Veterans Way is a major industrial corridor, and traffic volumes increase every year. The city is hoping that the province will construct an industrial bypass outside of its border to take pressure off of this corridor, so that a further expansion to eight lanes will not be necessary. Judging by the spending outlined in the budget, construction should wrap up in 2026.

The project also includes two pedestrian underpasses along the route, so that people have a safe way to cross without needing to go through up to eight lanes of traffic. Design work for the first one will go ahead next year, for construction in 2022. Design work for the second underpass is expected to occur in 2023, with construction taking place in 2024.

Here is Fort Saskatchewan's 2021 capital budget, which was approved by council last night and goes into great detail about the project.

Also, here's a map to show the approximate scope of the expansion. I traced the route with a blue marker.
