Tourism Master Plan - 2021-2030

Love the sound of this exactly the way I think Edmonton should market itself. A large, modern city with no shortage of green space, that is kind of a more grassroots alternative to Calgary. Also love the emphasis on our 4 seasons, there's no way to get around our winter so why not embrace it? Now the city needs to act on it and make material change to our urban form to make it happen.

I would bet a leg that if we wanted, a joint Alberta bid for the summer Olympics could very well be successful. Have most of the team sports (Basketball, Football, Rugby, Baseball/Softball, Volleyball), Golf, and sports like Decathlon, Pentathlon be played in Edmonton, which has better sports infrastructure for larger crowds and have most of the individual and water sports and be played in Calgary (rowing, slalom, etc...). It would probably end up being ridiculously cheap, overall, would have less of a "dead" legacy, as both cities would probably just need to invest in a few sport-specific stuff, with the rest being on general infrastructure that would benefit both of them for decades to come.

The Rowing/Canoeing Venue would be easier in Leduc. Glenmore is not long enough. Telford can accommodate a full International standard course for both events.it would just need to be made deeper. 3 meters is the min and Telford goes to 1.5 meter at its shallowest. White water events defiantly in Calgary. But where would the surfing events be. Based on current MTB course standards both Ed and Calgary could accommodate the events. Edmonton should have a new velodrome open by the time its needed as well.
