Was tipped off yesterday that the City has managed to consolidate a large contiguous block of land in The Quarters between the Hyatt and the location of the new park on 96 St., and has put it up for sale:

Given that fragmented land ownership in the area is a huge barrier to redevelopment, this is big news.

Here's the city's listing: https://www.edmonton.ca/business_economy/documents/Armature_Block_Listing.pdf

It will be interesting to see if there are any nibblers. It is a bit of a risk on the City's part -- they have placed pretty rigid controls on development -- and if no-one bites, it could actually be a newsworthy set-back for the Quarters generally. If it succeeds, then lets do it again.

If they have trouble getting development for the whole site, there is also the option to split it into smaller sites for multiple developers.

YES. I really want this street to take off. This could be the street that really starts to turn things around...
