The NB Low Level Bridge was revamped a few years ago, but the SB Low Level Bridge is nearing the end of its life. I want to see the SB bridge under construction asap but there are no plans posted on the COE website.

They did emergency repairs on one of the bridge columns not too long ago, so I would think it has to be up for replacement in the next budget cycle. I really like the bridge, but it's time for it to go

I have no idea if this is still accurate, or planned, but back in 2019 the City had rehab for the Low Level (both spans) planned for '2024-2025 at the latest' per Global. Let's hope that's still the case.

It is, rehab for both bridge is 2024-2025 and full replacement of both will be 2037-2042 approximately.

I don't want to see Edmonton's first bridge ever replaced if possible, but hopefully the maintenance it needs comes soon!

good luck with this one… :(

from an edmonton journal article reporting on city of edmonton maintenance only 2 years ago:

“Despite being built 119 years ago, the original Low Level Bridge is still in pristine condition.”

Court battle over Low Level Bridge paint failure continues 15 years after makeover

City of Edmonton claims $10M in damages connected to paint failure

"According to the city spokesperson, the Low Level Bridge — which technically contains two separate structures, built 48 years apart — was last coated in 2006. Upcoming rehabilitation work to extend the bridge's life in 2024 and 2025 will not include repainting, in part due to cost concerns."
It's disappointing to hear repainting isn't part of the project's scope.
