Federal Politics

Things are happening not specifically making headline news with heritage media that will cause a few heads to spin in the near term.
Yes, the major media doesn't cover things as well as it used to. In the US between Fox and the political chill on some of the other majors networks I feel it is not great.

I do feel it is much better in Canada although the National Post at times seems to be trying to like Fox, but being a nearly broke newspaper chain their influence has diminished a lot.

I saw this morning that a centrepiece of today's federal budget will be a $50 Billion local infrastructure fund that cities will be able to use to build housing, transportation projects and even healthcare facilities.

Knack posted a pic of himself on the phone with Carney yesterday.

The downtown student incentive could use another $15 to $30 million as just one option.

Hopefully the province doesn't get in the way of any of this funding and actually contributes.

Also $1 Billion to help attract and retain top talent for research facilities.

Will also be some big spending reductions/cuts on operational side.

Anyone know where we can watch the budget announcement live?

Edit:

Budget 2025 goes big on capital spending, deficit projected at $78.3B

Big ticket spending on building, securing Canada

Overall, the budget commits to spending $280 billion over five years on capital investments in new infrastructure, productivity and competitiveness measures, defence and security, and housing.

Public service cuts coming, social programs spared

This summer, cabinet ministers were asked to find up to 15 per cent operational savings over the next three years, and the budget includes the results of that comprehensive expenditure review.

New details on immigration, climate targets

On immigration, the budget lays out an initial “Immigration Levels Plan” to stabilize the number of permanent resident admission targets at 380,000 annually for the next three years.

Will all this pass? Key political test ahead

This budget is the first of a new fiscal reporting cycle, that going forward all see federal budgets tabled in the fall and followed up by economic updates in the spring.

Homeslice Big Daddy Mark will come through HUGE for his home town on this budget!!!!

Well beside the Infrastructure money YEG will benefit from the Military Spending as well.

The new transportation and Air refueling base for the airport is still out there. But expansions at the Garrison and Cold Lake will help.

That's right, the Eastern Hub in ON was announced this past summer, ours, at the latest should be announced by Summer '26
