Edmonton Oilers

There was a rumor that Fredric was close to signing an extension here too. I think I saw it a few days ago.

Considering the hefty price they paid for Frederic and Jones, they damn well better re-sign Frederic instead of letting him just walk away as a UFA.

But if they did, and not saying they should, it does free up that money for somebody else, no?

They need to re-sign McDavid and Bouchard (I'm guessing $15M and $10M respectively), however the cap space is going up.

Being able to golf in the winter does not hurt either, and some players prefer smaller markets with less pressure. Others are drawn to hockey-crazy places where fans care deeply and hockey is either the top dog or the only game in town.

The Edmonton Oilers, in the final for a second consecutive year, are the perfect example of that.

“The passion obviously that this fanbase has for their team is incredible,” said Oilers forward Evander Kane, who has also played in Atlanta, Winnipeg, Buffalo and San Jose. “Once you actually get here and get to know your way around the city a little bit more, you realize there’s actually quite a bit to do and it is a good spot for families and they have great summers.”

Hockey popularity surging in Florida amid Panthers’ Stanley Cup success

Make sense.

Once Dallas won their cup in 99', it was a back page sports story.

Now, there are kids coming out of Texas being drafted into the NHL and they have multiple high school teams. Takes time to grow a sport that isn't football, baseball or basketball in the States.
