Edmonton Oilers

TSN: It's a big story and obviously Oiler fans are following along closely. I'm sure it's occupying a lot of your time as well. We haven't heard from you for a week or so. Any update on where things are at?

McDavid: “No, no update and status quo. I'm sure people are gonna be sick of hearing me say this, but they don't need to be sick of hearing me say this because you keep asking. But it's the same. I'm in no rush, working through it, again, as I said, with my family, with Lauren, and with my agent. There's no grand master plan here. It's just simply this is a big decision for me – a big decision for not only my life but my playing career. I've been playing hockey since I was two years old. Everything I've put into my life's work is hockey and this is a big decision in that, so I want to get it right – not only for me but for what's best for the organization. So, a lot of thought going into it and I think people should appreciate that because when it's all said and done we're not going to be feeling like, “Oh we rushed into anything." It's going to be well thought out for both sides, as I'm sure the Oilers are doing as well, so I think people can appreciate the effort behind it.

Rishaug is a nauseating wanna-be Toronto lemming…..too much into rumours and scandals so he could work his into a broadcaster desk job…..please TSN fire him!

Staples is downplaying the TO media…..it’s not him starting rumours and conjecture…..I’ve got no problem with Staples……

I am particularly interested in:
Isaac Howard -- Forward (college phenom)
Matt Savoie -- Forward (home town favorite + goal potential)
David Lewandowski -- Forward (in the mold of Drai)
Connor Clattenburg -- Forward (heavy hitter)
Hyde Davidson -- Defenseman (hometown allure)
Josh Banini -- Goalie (hometown allure)
Samuel Jonsson -- Goalie (Save percentage)

After that Friedman's latest interview, it feels like Connor is going to see how the early season goes, maybe waits for a key move/trade and then goes all in to WIN THIS season.

1. Oilers WIN a cup, he stays for 4-5 more to continue that.

2. Oilers DONT WIN, but close, he signs 2-3.

3. Oilers out top 8, he does not sign and goes to Toronto or Vegas.

We have to be emotionally ready for McDavid to walk as a UFA or be traded. And it's important to remember: He didn't fail the organization. The organization failed him.

This is starting to remind me of the Gretzky trade in 1988.

I have no doubt he will be signing with the Oilers (ok, maybe a tiny bit) so I don't plan to be emotionally ready for a different outcome.

So the irony would be that if he decided to sign elsewhere for 26/27 and that coincided with the year that Oilers won the Stanley Cup... something akin to when Gretzky went to LA and Messier et al brought another cup to the big E. There is something distasteful about his ego-tripping.
