Edmonton Oilers

Wait what?! Which one said that? Let me guess.....was it Button? I'm thinking he'll do a 4 X $17 re-sign. EDIT** - just saw the video of those clowns - of course MJ is saying 2 yrs for McD - they know the Leaves will suck even more this year and they are deflecting that Marner left.......what team is better than the Oil in the West? None are, Avs - did nothing. Stars - got worse. Peg - did nothing. Vegas - it's a wash. I'm going with Year 3 in the finals again......

On another note, Clouder got quite the raise! Too bad, I was hoping he'd come back for $2M/yr.

So far it's looking a lot like "addition by subtraction" for the Oilers and I'm not sure they're done yet. I'm also not sure they'll be done until after the trade deadline next March and I think I'm okay with that.

It will certainly make their Development Camp and Rookie Camp and Traiining Camp/Exhibition Season more interesting as players like Savoie and Philp and Kemp and O;Reilly etc. might well have some immediate roster spots up for grabs.

I'd be quite happy to see a youth injection to the forward mix - the defensive core still looks pretty set, at least at the top - and I'd be quite happy to stick with Skinner and Pickard in goal - subject to their getting a new goalie coach that can elevate/build on their games and not stifle them.

Let Knoblach see what gels between the start of the season and the trade deadline and then they can use what's available/left in their cap space to load up for the playoffs where it's needed the most.

Does that put McDavid's extension at a slightly higher risk? Perhaps, but I don't think a "lather rinse repeat" of the last couple of years would be greeted that enthusiastically either and I can't imagine he hasn't been kept aware of what's been going on and been okay with it noting that the core group of McDavid, Draisaitl, Nugent-Hopgins, Hyman, Nurse, Bouchard, Ekholm etc. is still in place.

I too would like to see some movement up from the farm; psychologically it is the kind of rejuvenation that got the Oilers going in their first 5X Stanley Cup romp.

Clearly they are not wanting to overpay for anyone not currently on their team AND not rush things.

Some young gun potential, overall better D from the start of last year and a more mature Skinner...?

High risk right here.
