From Chris Dulaba (via SSP):

The architect is preparing the Phase 1 Development Permit drawing package. Phase 2 ESA is underway, proposals for on/off site engineering in review. We're hoping to get our application submitted sometimes this month.

There is contamination in the NW corner of the site that needs to be identified and remediated.

No website yet and not sure who they plan to team up with for the local.

Hoping for construction to start this fall likely October or November.

This is the kind of multi-tower development that used to common in Calgary (as far as western cities go). I believe that it will provide an impetus for still more downtown development. It certainly will create a lot of street-level activity. And, it is a skyline-changing project

From Chris Dulaba:

Unfortunately Rise has decided to place this project on hold to evaluate the market over the next few months. Apparently they were advised by a number of lenders to focus their time and capital on projects in Ontario considering the 'uncertainly' related to the Alberta market.

Sadface

Three groups of people kill more projects for suspect rationales -- banks, lawyers and planners -- than all others combined. Fortunately, this will give more impetus to other projects in the downtown area.

You'd have to message ChrisD on C2E to know for sure, since he was working on it directly. Indefinitely shelved from what he said last though.

Yep, last I heard the bean counters suggested Mr. developer stick to what he knows in Ontariario and don't risk capital in that topsy turvy Edmonton economy.
