When will this actually start?
I think we're all wondering in anticipation as to the start and current state of this tower.
The last proposal cut back the height, removed the theatre and the rooftop garden as well as shrinking the podium to just two floors.
Not many took a liking to the new proposal as the tower itself looked far more basic.

Mind you i'm not in the know, but just what I last heard about it. Hopefully someone out there has some better news for us.

Everyday when I walk by the site, the more and more I get disappointed that nothing is happening.

I still believe that Katz et al are trying to bargain with the City -- no way is he going to build a cra- building on this site; he is bargaining with the City to get council to buy into supporting so-called public space. If he is playing a who-blinks-first game with the City he will not win with this council -- or this site will remain in stasis for a very long time.

K looking at this site, when as the 'ground floor' gotten waterproofing material (or whatever that stuff is) wrapped all over it? Also, there seem to be a couple structures popping up above ground, that to me reeeeeally look like staircase entrances to the parkade below.

...putting these to observations together, I think this site is being prepped to sit without a tower for a very long time :/ I hope I'm wrong...

I think you are right @crisp -- the Katz & Co. know that the last proposal is a dunder-headed bust. They are prepared to go with a vacant site for as long as it takes to get relevant pieces back in order: 1. financial input and/or concessions from the City (i.e. public park space), 2. a better podium mix (i.e. theaters et al), 3. more density for residential uses, and 4. City input on the Plaza.

We'll learn more about the state of the theatre soon, but one thing I did hear today is that part of the reason they had to go back for a redesign is because the original grocery chain that signed on backed out at the last minute. They have since signed on a new one, and we should be learning more about that within a few weeks.

It was hinted that the original chain that backed out was "Vancouver-based." Narrows it down a lot.

This is definitely one of those things that unless you are on the inside communication team, it is mostly speculation. Most things I read are: "I heard this, but...".

@westcoastjos It came from Glen Scott. Take it as you will.
I was speaking generally. There has been a ton of hearsay on this online is more what my point was. Not to your point. That sounds like credible information.

There is a lot of conjecture on the theatre and now Global reports that Katz Group has confirmed no theatre, period.
