I read about this building in the Journal in about 2014, but I've never seen the preserved facade up close. I know "facadism" is fairly controversial as far as preservation goes, but when it's done correctly (as it is here, in my opinion) it really is the best compromise. We need more of this, where possible.

Still would have loved a new hotel in the bottom-half of this, but she is a great project.

We walked through this space a couple of weeks ago (courtesy of Enbridge Centre and Greenjeans Interiorscape) and it was absolutely captivating in its outright “loveliness”. The saddest thing about it was the unanimous assessment of how “un-Edmonton” a space it was. It’s too bad it’s the exception and not the rule for our urban edges.
