There should be an announcement pretty soon (within a couple weeks) for a new tower. I don't see a public release yet so don't want to divulge any details.
That would be great news, if it happens. I think there is a lot of good news, economically speaking, for Edmonton and area these days, but it often takes a while for development to reflect this sort of improvement.

Ice District is a large, very ambitious and optimistic development, but COVID and the rough economy over the last several years basically caused them to put further development on hold.

It will be a very good sign if this starts going ahead again and I think would also be a tremendous boost in itself for confidence.

Anyone know the reason? Seems like low hanging fruit to lease a tower with a grocery store in the base and the central area finishing vs a tower on the north where things are still a bit rough and it’s farther from the valley line trains/jasper/104st/CCm
The land where Baccarat Casino used to be is already zoned for three of the twelve residential towers that are part of phase two, and it's been identified by the developers as an important site to develop. They've also been facing pressure from the city to do more with it than just install a temporary parking lot. If they're planning for development north of 104th, my money is on this site being done first. Maybe their logic is that filling this empty site next to Rogers could improve the overall aesthetic and appeal of the area more than a tower on top of the Connect Centre podium would. It'd have the added benefit of shifting construction to an empty site, rather than muddying the opening of long-awaited businesses by burying them in even more scaffolding and construction right off the bat.

Multiple folks reporting it quietly... but as Jason403 says, nothing public yet.

It will be a significant announcement and continue the shift north.

I'm still sensing the commencement of Ice District Phase Two...

Here is a map of the nine towers that are not on the Baccarat site:

Considering Katz Group Real Estate doesn't own all of the parcels (yet) within the Ice District 2.0 lands bounded by 101 St, 103 St, 105 Ave and 106 Ave, my bet for the next tower is on the Baccarat site.
Even better, the site will eventually have three towers! Maybe they're going to announce the construction of a podium and one tower to start, and details about the phasing of the other two?

If the Baccarat site is chosen for the next tower, I wonder if they will keep that barely-used dog park?
It's intended to be temporary, a permanent park will replace it in Ice District Phase Two. (If I remember right)
