FIFA World Cup Qualifiers dates have been announced for November 12 and 16, vs Costa Rica and Mexico respectively. This is huge for a multitude of reasons. First off, this is the best squad we've fielded in two decades, currently we sit 2nd in the Octo (top 3 make WC, 4th goes to playoff). Second, FIFA representatives will likely be in the building reviewing the stadium and city for the WC 2026 bid how Edmonton shows up could have an big impact on their review. Third, the homecoming of Alphonso Davies, currently in discussions for the being the best Left Back in the world right now. Do not hesitate to purchase tickets as soon as they go on sale, we do not want to give the away fans the opportunity to steal the home field advantage like they have in the past.

Good result for Canada tonight in its quest for a World Cup 2022 berth. It was our first goal at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City since 1981 and apparently we controlled much of the first half. Unfortunately a couple of key starters were yellow carded in this game and will miss our Oct 10 game against Jamaica.

Mexico was ranked #9 in the world before this game vs. Canada at #51

Was a fantastic game, watching Phonzie is always exciting. We could easily have come away with the 3pts but I think our youth caught up with us a little bit and we didn't have that clinical finish. Off to a struggling Jamaica on Sunday, we really should be beating quite easily.

Tickets are not yet on sale and might not be for another two or even three more weeks.

“It will be a sprint not a marathon to get tickets sold,” said Explore Edmonton's JanelleJanis of mid-week meetings with Soccer Canada officials that indicate they appear to have done their homework. Soccer Canada looks to be adopting the plan from the two most recent Grey Cups here.

In 2010 Edmonton sold out the Grey Cup for an attendance of 63,317 in three days before the regular season EE home opener and used the same model for the ballistic hosting of Grey Cup 106 in 2018 in the refitted Commonwealth Stadium to draw 55,819.

There’s also another aspect to consider. Explore Edmonton is looking at building something of a mini-festival around the Friday-Tuesday games.

“Having two games here really gives us the opportunity to package things up and make it a festival type atmosphere."
 
I find the Canadian game announcers extremely annoying (although not as bad as watching with American ones). Is it the same guys that do FC Edmonton and the national team?

Can’t wait for tickets to go on sale! The last soccer game I’ve been to in Canada (other than FC Edmonton) was a Brazil vs Chile friendly in Toronto in 2013!
 
What a goal by Alphonso Davies to give Canada a 2-1 lead at a critical junction of the game where Panama was controlling the play. And then the young Buchanan, potentially another star in the making, scores a beautiful header leading Canada to eventual 4-1 win.

Huge win. Panama was ahead of us in 3rd in the standings and now we've passed them for that final World Cup spot. Still lots of games to be played, but we're looking good.
Next up - Costa Rica and Mexico in Edmonton. Davies homecoming.
