I had a call from a planner about the site. He said they'd had what he called a fruitful and hopeful discussion with the owner and his son. While the owner didn't really want to do anything with the site (there's a shocker), the son expressed some interest in developing it. While this is good, it's all up in the air. And in the meantime we have lost a gorgeous old building, a mural, years of potential use as something other than a dump. I was quite impressed with the follow-up I received but it seems like there's so little that the City can do to get on top of this. I mean it's been decades! And will the Regency site downtown follow suit and revel in all its war zone glory for decades to come?

Do these owners even give downtown a chance? How many owners have sat on properties that have stagnated or decayed over the years? Do they even see the growth downtown has made?

It is very frustrating that the owners sit on these prominent sites for years and do nothing. Even worse is when they are not well kept up, although at least the Arlington site has been finally been leveled and cleaned up some now.

The Arlington fire was terrible and I feel the aftermath led to a lot of bad blood between the the owner and the city, which may be a big part of the problem here, so I can't see the city being directly involved in initiating a productive solution here. Although, you would think there would be some private developers who would have some interest in this site.

At least Aldritt has the decency to landscape their lots and wrap them with a white picket fence. It'd still be an upgrade from this haha.
