106st-107st streetscaping

My hunch is they might be waiting until more activity comes to the 103-104ave area? Focusing efforts on areas of higher foot traffic for now (jasper ave). Crazy how bad so much of our DT streets became in the 2010s. Glad we're updating them all. Just so slow.
Given the current trend of things moving away from Jasper Ave to Ice District and elsewhere I am not sure if it will be higher foot traffic in the future.

I'm confident Jasper Ave will reinvent itself. 103 St to 106 St has a good mix of places for food and beverages already, bringing people in and we're slowly bringing in more residents within a couple of blocks.

Yes, there are actually some very nice places in this area and with some residential conversions and new building nearby. Hopefully that will sustain them and help bring other retail to this area to fill the empty former bank spaces.

Well then.

The idiotic 'traffic calming' to 106st from 100ave-97ave has begun.

One would think that I would be supportive as I live in the area, but it is a major 'exit route' for Downtown, especially when 109st is busy and needs to retain that capacity given other options.

They are making it one lane south from 100ave and adding more on street parking south of 99ave which simply is not needed given the options and availability in the area.

My issue was that the street is already pretty damn calm. When we bike or walk that tends to be one street that doesn't feel like we're taking our lives in our hands. Personally, I was stumped because there are plenty other streets that really could use traffic calming. 105 st immediately comes to mind since you're lucky if 50% of the cars even slow down when you press the crosswalk light.

Yeah, I also walk across it from time to time during the day, it is usually not very busy and I feel fine. I would agree 105 Street is much worse.

Spendin' money on a solution in search of a problem.

It was a little busy trying to turn left onto 106 St from 99 Ave Tuesday during rush hour, but it was probably 2-3 minutes from when we were on 99 Ave to when we turned left onto 97 Ave.

They also eliminated the dual left turn from 106 St onto 97 Ave, but a lot of people were still turning left from the right lane.
