Not every lot downtown is going to turn into a high end luxury tower. And downtown needs buildings where rent doesn’t start in the 2’s. It’s got minimal setback and scaled nicely so it’s going to serve downtown way better than what’s there currently despite being too “suburban” for a lot of...
I've been to Winnipeg a couple times in the last few months and my honest take away from spending time there is that their architecture blows Edmonton's out of the water. I'm also not even talking about old stuff which they do better, it seems like all of their new 6-12 story apartments have a...
I thought the one on 116st is supposed to have some sort of office space that Leston is going to use(I could be remembering that wrong) but it will probably be the same style/finishes but smaller scale and a different main floor.
A winning team is probably the biggest factor. So much easier to care about the team as a fan when the team has a chance to win. Also closing the upper level was a great move because the atmosphere feels way fuller than it would if 10000 of those fans in the lower bowl were spread out in the...
Edmonton's whole tourism strategy for the longest time was "worlds largest mall", and now malls as tourist destinations are things of the past and we are kind of left with a directionless approach. downtown doesn't have much of a draw for people visiting unless its for business, and our two...
I'm pretty sure the city has been prepping for this for a long time however I think the ability to fight it off is pretty limited and its likely to take out a lot of our trees. Edmonton's tree canopy in the older neighborhoods are one its most attractive features so this is pretty concerning.
Is this pure speculation? Or are there sources beyond just a mural going up?
A slightly encouraging thing to note is that they have recently been running a fresh set of ads that still show all phases
Noticed driving by that this building is totally fenced off and there’s an Edmonton development proposal sign up. At a glance the proposal was about the same size.
Kinda wish it was the empty lot across the road that was being developed though.
That’s not a road in that picture so that’s somewhat of an anomaly in the neighbourhood in terms of set back, but in general the distance seems to mostly be because of the green strip between the roads and the sidewalks
You could spend the large amount of money needed to build pedestrian over passes, but that still wouldn’t solve the fundamental problem to it being a non walkable neighbourhood which is the fact that things are just physically really far apart.
