If leaders in 2005 could have foreseen the 2025 funding environment, the acquisition of Enterprise Square wouldn't have made sense at all. I'm sure we could, if we were willing to spend the money. I think the (correct, but unfortunate) perception is that most people here don't see things like this as part of "history," or as worth preserving if they have to shell out a few dollars for it.

I could understand (without approving) everything being black and white vinyl. But why do so many buildings have such a weird hodgepodge of claddings? Is it so they can point and say "look, we're classy! we have some brick!"?

It's short-sighted, albeit in a way that's so commonplace that it can escape notice, to think only of the taxes without considering the value to businesses (and everyone else) of the services paid for with those taxes.
